Look what time it is...Winter PE!!

Posted Date: 10/03/24 (11:11 AM)

Hello TSD families!

Winter PE season is here! Are you ready?! This is a long email with a lot of information. Hang in there, we’ll get through it together! My name is Jaime Stewart and I help coordinate the TSD Winter PE program for the school district. If you are new to the district, Winter PE is a five week program and your student has the opportunity to participate in one of several outdoor activities for physical education credit. Each school participates in Winter PE on different days:

TES - Tuesdays, beginning January 7th and ending February 4th.

TIS - Wednesdays, beginning January 8th and ending February 5th

TMHS - Thursday and Friday afternoons, beginning January 9th and ending February 7th.

There is a lot of information regarding Winter PE. I will send out a few messages via ParentSquare, however the majority of Winter PE information will come to you via the Friday messages that each specific school sends out. Please make sure you are receiving Friday messages and make sure you read them each week to ensure you have all the information you need. This is very important!

Winter PE is only possible because of generous donations by our community members, that give our students an opportunity to learn and play outside of school. We are working to expand Winter PE Scholarships even further this year and would like to thank Scott Pearson, Mayor Pro Tem MV, for founding Ski for All to seek grant funding from local organizations to raise additional scholarship funds for our students.  We would also like to thank Telluride Sports and Bootdoctors who donate ski rentals to scholarship families, The Alpineer who will donate 10% of their ski rental sales program back to our Winter PE program for families who sign up using this unique link https://www.christysports.com/tellurideschooldistrict, Telluride Ski Resort for their donation of 20 lift passes to our scholarship students, and you who helped us to provide $35,170 of scholarships funds to 132 students last year.

This email will cover three items:

  1. The Winter PE program options and registration information for each school.

  2. Winter PE Scholarship Information and Application.

  3. Information on how to donate to the Winter PE Scholarship Fund.

1. Winter PE Registration week is Nov. 4th - Nov. 9th. This means all Winter PE options will be open for registration at 8:00am, Nov. 4th and close at midnight on Nov. 9th. The only exceptions are Telski Ski PE and Telluride Ski and Snowboard Club. Both of these options are currently open for registration. We are encouraging all students to complete registration for one of the Winter PE programs by Nov. 9th. The following links have the program options for each school, as well as registration information.

2. The Winter PE Scholarship Application has changed this year. This year we are requiring two separate forms to be filled out for each student applying for a Winter PE Scholarship. The first form is the Winter PE Scholarship Application and the second is the Free and Reduced Lunch Application . This form provides us with the financial information we need to be able to provide families with scholarship funds. Please do not be discouraged by either of these forms, both are short and easy to fill out. If you have already been notified that your child qualifies for Free and Reduced Lunch this year, you do not need to complete this form. You only need to complete the Winter PE Scholarship Application Form. Keep in mind that applying for a Winter PE Scholarship does not guarantee a scholarship and if your family does not qualify for Free and Reduced lunch, it does not mean you will not receive a scholarship. Please complete each form below and either email the completed forms to me at jstewart@telluride.k12.co.us or turn them in to the front desk of your school. The last day to turn in the application forms is October 25th.

3. The District is again seeking donations to provide scholarships to students whose families would not otherwise be able to cover the cost of the Winter PE program.  The District has a total of 233 students who qualify for free and reduced lunch and the District’s goal is to provide each of these students the opportunity to enjoy the Winter PE program of their choice at a deeply discounted rate. To make a tax deductible donation, please write a check payable to Telluride School District and turn it into the front desk of your school, use this link, or the QR code below.

You made it through the whole message! Good for you! That was a lot! Please continue to read the Friday messages from your school for updated Winter PE information.
